During my time at IBM, some of my most notable achievements were focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. At times, this required me to step outside of my normal day-to-day product design work to identify potential areas of improvement within IBM's expansive portfolio.

Summary
IBM watsonx Orchestrate is a generative AI and automation solution that empowers a business by automating tasks, simplifying complex processes, and ultimately saving a team’s time and effort.
My contributions were focused on the Skill Studio capability within watsonX Orchestrate. The Skills Studio in watsonx Orchestrate is a low code developer studio with a robust software developer kit (SDK) for building skills and automations that can be added to the Orchestrate skills catalog and can be used to extend the capabilities of your AI assistant.

Within my first year these endeavors led me to work alongside senior members of the Business Automation team (Allen Chan - CTO, Matt Warta - Director of Product Management, Kasun Attanapola - Principal Product Manager, and Jake Jepperson - Senior Automation Technical Specialist) to submit an invention disclosure for a patent that describes a dynamic federated approach to workflow management. My efforts during this time involved designing a prototype to highlight the core concepts of the invention, preparing a playback presentation, and writing content to supplement the initial invention disclosure. The prototype I prepared was used to illustrate the invention's capabilities to Gartner during an initial research inquiry which demonstrated IBM's forward-thinking with respect to workflow products. Due to varying schedules, I was responsible for presenting the key concepts of the invention on numerous occasions throughout the review period which occurred over the duration of 6 months. The fruits of this effort resulted in me receiving a QCAP First Quarter 2022 Winner - Entrepreneurship Award, and a first-time inventor achievement award which supplemented a cash prize after filing with the US Patent Office. At the start of 1Q2022, the new invention was placed at the forefront of the Business Automation technical strategy in an announcement by Allen Chan during the first quarter Business Automation All Hands event. This invention has provided IBM with an opportunity to standardize a new approach to workflow management by enabling progressive collaboration techniques that bridge the gap between the runtime and build experience of a given solution. Not only does this bolster the approach for handling workflows, but it extends further to provide a key differentiator as IBM aims to compete in the low-code application platform market.

While working with this team I was able to showcase the full spectrum of IBM's Growth Behaviors: Growth minded - Demonstrated by receiving feedback and making updates to the prototype. Most importantly, not landing on a single solution assuming that it was the best or only path forward. Trusted - Observed through the behavior of my senior teammates. They trusted me to execute and deliver a positive outcome at times when they had to be absent. Team focused - Demonstrated by operating outside of my day-to-day efforts to work towards delivering a prototype that would allow the team to convey the purpose of the invention disclosure in an effective manner. Courageous - Demonstrated by taking the initiative to propose a new concept for evaluation that goes beyond primary responsibilities. Resourceful - Demonstrated by referencing offerings currently available on the market and identifying a key area of opportunity for the IBM Business Automation team to capitalize on. Outcome Focused - Demonstrated by taking the initiative to propose a solution that would improve the ability of our customers to manage their daily operations and processes.
